Maspalomas Oasis Club
Irwin Mitchell has been instructed by holidaymakers who have suffered illness during an all inclusive holiday at the Maspalomas Oasis Club in Gran Canaria, Spain during a holiday taken in April 2014.
A number of holidaymakers suffered a very unpleasant gastric illness during their holiday. The holidaymakers report suffered from vomiting, abdominal pain, cramps, diarrhoea, headaches, dehydration and felt faint and delirious. The holiday was severely disrupted.
One of the holidaymakers describes the hygiene standards of the hotel as generally poor, especially at the pool bar where one member of staff served drinks whilst running back and forth maintaining the swimming pool, sunbeds and emptying bins. They also say that in the restaurant that there were flies over some of the food, and some food was clearly undercooked, and that cold food was on occasions not kept chilled.
The holidaymaker noted a large amount of other guests at the resort were also ill, and was told about one older lady unable to take her heart medication due to the severity of her illness. The holidaymakers received medical treatment after a complaint made by another guest at the hotel, and a doctor and nurses were brought to resort to treat the large number of people affected by the illness outbreak.
Upon returning to the UK the holidaymakers continued to suffer symptoms. One holidaymaker had to be rushed to hospital with chest pains and was diagnosed with an inflamed heart (the cause of the condition is yet unknown).
Despite some positive reports, a holidaymaker who stayed at the hotel this summer described the hotel as “terrible” and another holidaymaker stated that the hotel is “dangerously unhealthy and should be avoided” and that “the standards of hygiene are not acceptable and were the cause of a serious stomach bug wiping out the complex”. Another holidaymaker described the food as “the most disgusting food ever come across” and also this may have been the reason “guests were falling like flies due to illness”.
