The International Personal Injury team at Irwin Mitchell has been instructed to act on behalf of a British holidaymaker and his family after he became ill whilst staying at the Gaia Royal Hotel, in Mastichari, on the Greek island of Kos.
The British man visited the resort in July 2015 and was admitted to hospital during his stay, later being diagnosed with Legionnaires disease. His illness was described by doctors as “critical” and has left our client unable to return to work. He continues to suffer with ongoing symptoms including fatigue and shortness of breath upon his return to the UK.
Despite some positive reviews, holidaymakers have complained about faeces in the swimming pool and described the hotel’s beds as “hard”. Our client and his family had to be moved to a different room after complaining about the poor quality décor and furniture in their original room. They then experienced problems with the air conditioning in the second room they stayed in. The family noticed that on occasions the air conditioning unit was generating hot air rather than cool air and looked old and dated.
Having significant experience in assisting those unfortunate enough to contract Legionnaires disease, we know first-hand the potential long term effects that can be associated with such illness. The symptoms can sometimes become permanent and long term complications can arise such as ongoing fatigue and organ failure. We will be investigating the cause of illness on behalf of the holidaymaker and hope the tour operator will work with us to establish why the man fell ill.
