Irwin Mitchell’s specialist International Personal Injury lawyers have been contacted by a holidaymaker who suffered gastrointestinal illness after staying at the Hotel San Giorgio in Greece during June and July 2017.

The holidaymaker told the team that sometimes the food had been served undercooked, including chicken and fish. They were also concerned to note that there were times when the food served inside the buffet restaurant did not seem to be adequately covered, and that new food was sometimes added on top of old food, rather than being replaced. The same food seemed to be reused at different servings, and both flies and cats were seen around the restaurant.

The holidaymaker was also concerned to notice that sometimes the restaurant cutlery and crockery was dirty and noticed other guests falling ill too.

Gastric symptoms can range from mild diarrhoea to abdominal cramps and blood in stools. Having significant experience in assisting those unfortunate enough to contract gastric illness, we are all too aware of the potential long term conditions that can be associated with it, such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
