Marathon Hotel 2015

The International Personal Injury team at Irwin Mitchell are concerned to read recent reports of guests who fell ill with symptoms including sickness and diarrhoea whilst on holiday at the Marathon Hotel on the Greek island of Rhodes in July 2015.

Despite positive reviews, some holidaymakers spoke of a “sickness bug” which affected some guests at the hotel. In July 2015 around 40 tourists were reported to have been suffering from illness.

Some holidaymakers said that some food was “not cooked in the correct way and was lukewarm”. Other guests raised safety issues claiming that “wires were hanging out the walls” and there were sewage smells around the pool. Holidaymakers were also concerned over the frequency with which the communal toilets were cleaned, with reports of the poolside toilets being blocked on at least one occasion.

Gastric symptoms can range from mild diarrhoea to abdominal cramps and blood in the stools. We have significant experience helping those unlucky enough to contract gastric illness and know first-hand the potential long term effects like post-infective irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

If you also travelled to the Marathon Hotel and have subsequently suffered from symptoms of illness, Irwin Mitchell would like to hear from you.
