Leading illness expert lawyers in the International Travel Litigation team at Irwin Mitchell are concerned to receive reports of gastric illness at the Grand Palladium Jamaica Resort & Spa in Jamaica.     

We have had reports that holidaymakers staying at this resort have contracted a serious bacterial infection called Salmonella. Guests have fallen ill with gastric symptoms including diarrhoea, abdominal pain and fever.

There is a report of one child being bedridden for 5 days due to the severity of her symptoms. Infections such as Salmonella can leave permanent symptoms including an alteration of bowel habit, stomach pains and irritable bowel syndrome. 

Reports indicate that the cause of the gastric illnesses may have been due to the poor quality of food and lack of hygiene standards at the hotel. The hotel’s 5 star rating has been called into question by holidaymakers as food was said to be cold and undercooked. The service in the restaurants were slow.

There have been many complaints about the state of the hotel room with reports of broken air conditioning facilities, dirty floors and furniture, bathtub and floor being cracked, and the room smelling of damp. There are also reports of hotel rooms being flooded.

Security was also an issue at the hotel with guests complaining that their rooms had been broken into on a number of occasions and items being stolen.
