Irwin Mitchell are concerned to learn that a number of holidaymakers staying at the Grande Resort Ocho Rios resort in Jamaica are returning from their holidays complaining of severe gastric illness.  

Most recent reports of illness are from January 2012, however, we have also acted for clients who holidayed at the Grande Resort Ocho Rios resort in 2009 who also fell ill with severe gastric symptoms, allegedly as a result of the poor standards of food hygiene at the hotel.

It is alarming to learn that such problems continue at the hotel, with recent reports suggesting that holidaymakers have contracted serious bacterial infections as a result of a breakdown in food hygiene procedures. Such infections can leave permanent symptoms including an alteration of bowel habit, stomach pains and irritable bowel syndrome.

Holidaymakers complained that the food was served lukewarm and left uncovered for long periods of time. Further complaints suggest that the food was repetitive and appeared to be served up on more than one occasion. These reports indicate that the cause of the gastric illnesses may have been due to the poor quality of food and lack of hygiene standards practised at the hotel. It is reported that guests suffered from symptoms including violent diarrhoea, vomiting and stomach cramps.
