Irwin Mitchell has been contacted by a party of holidaymakers who have suffered illness during an all inclusive holiday at the Bellevue Club Hotel, in Alcudia, Majorca, during August 2013.
All of the party suffered gastric illness, including symptoms of diarrhoea and abdominal cramps. Unfortunately, some of the family have also been diagnosed with Cryptosporidium on their return from holiday.
The holiday, which had been booked to celebrate a 50th birthday, got off to a bad start when rooms were not available when the party arrived at the hotel. The holidaymakers reported that the first room they were allocated did not have enough beds for the whole family and lacked clean towels, bedding and toilet roll, as well as dead flies found embedded in the mattress.
Despite some positive reports, some holidaymakers have described their holidays to the Bellevue Club Hotel as “the worst they have ever been on”. Holidaymakers have described flies on some of the food and some of the food being undercooked. During one family’s stay at the hotel in August, the pizzeria and grill restaurants were closed. Holidaymakers reported seeing rats around the pool area, bins which were overflowing and vomit in the swimming pool.
Cryptosporidium is a waterborne parasite which causes unpleasant gastric illness. It is often associated with swimming pools that are not adequately maintained or cleaned. Irwin Mitchell is also representing holidaymakers who stayed at the Bellevue hotel in the summer of 2012 in a claim against their tour operator, after receiving a diagnosis of Cryptosporidium on return from holiday.
