Blue Sea St Georges Park & La Vallette Resorts, Malta
Solicitors at Irwin Mitchell are concerned since receiving reports of a holidaymaker falling ill with Legionnaires Disease following their stay at the Blue Sea St George’s Park & La Vallette Resorts, Malta in May 2013.
After experiencing difficulty in breathing, the holidaymaker visited hospital on his return to England. He then fell into a week-long coma. The doctors advised that he was lucky to be alive, as the disease had spread to both lungs and were not responding to antibiotics.
The risks of Legionella bacteria have been widely publicised amongst the hotel, cruise and leisure industry for many years. Clear protocols must be followed to eliminate the risk of Legionella infection including basic steps, such as ensuring water is stored within an appropriate temperature range, ensuring water supplies are regularly tested for Legionella contamination and regular chlorination and cleaning of water tanks, pipes, taps and showers. The cause of the illness is still under investigation.
Other holidaymakers have also raised complaints about the hotel, including concerns regarding the bathroom facilities being filthy, rooms containing left over rubbish, and bins in the communal areas of the hotel left overflowing.

"We were very happy with the outcome of our case, especially as we were initially offered nothing from the Tour Operator. Irwin Mitchell were very professional throughout and we are very happy with the outcome."
