Qawra Inn Hotel 2011

Irwin Mitchell are concerned to receive reports of a legionella scare at the Qawra Inn Hotel in Malta.

Qawra Inn Hotel previously known as Palm Court Hotel was reported to have been enforced to shut down by Health and Safety Authorities due to a scare of legionnaires’ disease.

It has been reported by holiday makers that health and safety authorities along with police enforced the eviction of all the guests at the Qawra Inn Hotel due to potentially fatal disease.

The risks of Legionella have been well known in the hotel, cruise and leisure industry for many years. There are clear protocols to be followed to eliminate the risk of Legionella infection  including basic steps like ensuring water is stored within an appropriate temperature range, ensuring water supplies are regularly tested for Legionella contamination and regular chlorination and cleaning of water tanks, pipes, taps and showers.

We have sadly seen a number of cases where tour operators have continued to send customers to sites affected by significant outbreaks of illness, with many holidaymakers oblivious to what has happened before.

If you have suffered from any illness or were injured whilst on holiday abroad as a result of this incident Irwin Mitchell would like to hear from you.  Contact us on 0800 056 0066 or complete our enquiry form and we will call you back.

"We were very happy with the outcome of our case, especially as we were initially offered nothing from the Tour Operator. Irwin Mitchell were very professional throughout and we are very happy with the outcome."
