WHAT THE EXPERTS SAY

"The team has so many contacts with foreign insurers and so many people with foreign languages that it is miles ahead of others."

Riu Vallarta, Nuevo Vallarta

Reports of mass illness at the Riu Vallarta Hotel in Mexico have alarmed the International Travel litigation team at Irwin Mitchell. Reports have suggested that large numbers of holidaymakers have fallen ill with symptoms of gastric illness during their holidays taken in March 2012.

A party of 26 holidaymakers staying at the hotel have described how 22 of them fell ill with symptoms of gastric illness, believed to be food poisoning, after staying at this hotel. It is reported how all 22 of them were bedridden with symptoms of severe food poisoning. Two weeks after their return, it is reported that they are yet to make a full recovery.

The illnesses contracted by holidaymakers may have been caused by a breakdown in food handling and food hygiene procedures.

Worryingly, we received similar complaints of illness in July 2011 when it was reported that the food buffet restaurant was overcrowded, with guests fighting for food, and that the food became repetitive after a few days. It was also suggested that the children's swimming pool was dirty with sanitary towels floating in the water.

If you also travelled to this resort and have subsequently suffered from symptoms of gastric illness or sustained an injury, Irwin Mitchell, who specialise in dealing with cases of such nature, would like to hear from you if you.

"We were very happy with the outcome of our case, especially as we were initially offered nothing from the Tour Operator. Irwin Mitchell were very professional throughout and we are very happy with the outcome."
