Aparthotel Nereida, Ibiza - 2017

Our team of specialist International Personal Injury lawyers has been contacted by holidaymakers who fell ill after a stay at the Aparthotel Nereida in Ibiza in August 2017. They suffered gastrointestinal symptoms which lasted long after their holiday was over.

The holidaymakers told us some of them were diagnosed with the pathogen Cryptosporidium after seeing doctors back in the UK. We're also concerned by their reports of other holidaymakers suffering from illness at the resort.

The holidaymakers said that sometimes the food served inside the buffet restaurant did not seem to be adequately covered and that the cold food was not always kept properly chilled. They were worried to see that new food was sometimes added to existing food on the buffet.

They saw flies round the food and also noticed that sometimes the food seemed to have been reheated and served up more than once.

Gastric symptoms can range from mild diarrhoea to abdominal cramps and blood in stools. Having significant experience in assisting those unfortunate enough to contract gastric illness, we know the long term conditions that can be associated with it, including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Dr Linzi Thomas is an expert in Gastroenterology, and has commented: "Many patients develop IBS for the first time following a bout of food poisoning or gastroenteritis. Of patients who initially suffer with post infective IBS, 50% will have on-going symptoms at one year, however 2 and 3 years later 34.3% and 34.8% respectively will have on-going symptoms showing that the figures plateau, indicating that the prospect of recovery unfortunately becomes less likely."

If you have also travelled to the Aparthotel Nereida, in Ibiza and have suffered illness or injury, we'd like to hear from you. We specialise in dealing with cases of this nature and have helped thousands of holidaymakers claim compensation.
