Isabel Hotel, Tenerife - 2016

We’ve been contacted by a family whose holiday was ruined when a number of them fell ill while staying at the Isabel Hotel in Tenerife in February 2016.

The family reported that those who fell ill suffered with gastric symptoms including diarrhoea, vomiting and stomach cramps. 

Though the hotel enjoys some positive reviews online, the family commented that their room was substandard and unclean. They noticed that in the restaurant food was sometimes left uncovered for a period of time, and saw other guests picking up items of food and then replacing it. 

On occasion they also saw birds in the restaurant walking over surfaces – and bird droppings were spotted on the floor and on tables. 

Gastric symptoms can range from mild diarrhoea to abdominal cramps and blood in stools. We have significant experience helping those unlucky enough to contract gastric illness while on holiday. We’re very aware of the complications that can develop because of such illness, such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The effects can sometimes develop into a problem that is long-term, or even permanent.
