Reports of Illness at Oasis Papagayo Hotel, Fuerteventura
Irwin Mitchell has heard complaints from holidaymakers whose holidays at the Oasis Papagayo Hotel, Fuerteventura, in Spain during the month of August 2010 were hit by illness.
It has been reported that this hotel is "absolutely diabolical". A family of four, including two young children, have reported how they became sick on several occasions after eating from the hotel's buffet restaurant. Additionally, their young baby required hospital attention after he had an allergic reaction to the chlorine in the swimming pool.
It is suggested that the food at the hotel was of a very poor quality and that there appeared to be little attention paid to hygiene standards. The poor quality food found to be repetitive and the only edible food tended to be chips, bread and rice. It would also be served greasy and cold.
Further allegations have been suggested, stating that the swimming pool at the hotel was filthy, that tiles were coming away from the pool edge, the concrete slabs surrounding the pool were broken and sharp, and that many children cut their feet on the sharp pool grid filters.
The rooms in the hotel didn't seem to be much better with what seemed to be live, loose electric cables hanging from the walls.
Holidaymakers were required to seek medical attention or resort to treating themselves. Some guests were placed on an IV drip and had their bloods tested. It is also reported that holidaymakers are still suffering upon their return from the hotel.
