60th Birthday Celebratory Holiday Affected by Illness at the Chich Khan Hotel, Tunisia 2010

Irwin Mitchell are acting on behalf of Martin Ormiston and his partner Jane Horan who have returned recently from the Chich Khan Hotel in Yasmine Hammamet, Tunisia.  They booked as a special holiday to celebrate Mrs Horan's 60th birthday but this was ruined when Mr Ormiston suffered gastric illness.

The couple from Edinburgh, stayed at the Chich Khan Hotel in April 2010.  Martin Ormiston, aged 48 years, became ill with symptoms of diarrhoea and stomach cramps when they had a few days of their holiday remaining.

The couple complained that there were poor food standards at the hotel, for example, the food was often served undercooked.  Scrambled eggs were swimming in liquid and sausages were raw in the middle. Hot food was very often served barely warm.

On returning to the UK, Martin Ormiston was still very poorly and visited his doctor.  He provided both stool and blood samples and was shocked when he was diagnosed as having contracted both Salmonella and Helicobacter.

Martin Ormiston said "I felt very down and depressed on the way home as I was so ill.  This was a special holiday for me and my partner and, also, it was the first time that I had travelled abroad on holiday."

Mr Ormiston also said “This was an awful experience and it has put me off travelling.  I am worried and upset that I am still suffering from symptoms of the illness today.
