Holiday Village, Sarigerme
Irwin Mitchell’s International Personal Injury Team are concerned to learn of recent reports of gastric illness at the Holiday Village in Sarigerme, Turkey. Holidaymakers have reported that they suffered from gastric illness symptoms including “diarrhoea” and “sickness”.
The most recent reports of illness are from October 2014, but we have previously acted for clients who holidayed at the Holiday Village in Sarigerme in previous years, who also fell ill with similar symptoms allegedly as a result of poor standards of food hygiene at the hotel.
Irwin Mitchell has previously settled almost 600 claims from holidays taken at the hotel in the summer of 2009, resulting in awards of up to £25,000. Over 400 of the holidaymakers represented from 2009 suffered severe gastric illness with over 100 suffering from severe infections such as salmonella, cryptosporidium, campylobacter and E-Coli. Irwin Mitchell are also assisting holidaymakers who took holidays in 2012 and 2013.
Despite positive reviews holidaymakers who stayed at the hotel this summer described that some of the food was served undercooked and not at the correct temperature. On one occasion, they report that they were served meat which was pink and bloody in the middle. Some of the cold foods were said not to have been appropriately chilled and food was left uncovered for prolonged periods of time. The cutlery, crockery and table linen was said to have been dirty on occasion. Pest control was said to be an issue with a large number of stray cats and kittens on occasions being present in the public areas of the hotel including the restaurant.
It is concerning to learn that such problems continue at the hotel. One holidaymaker had to be hospitalised as a result of their illness which was allegedly the result of a parasite in their intestines. Such infections can be the result of a breakdown in food handling procedures and can leave permanent symptoms including an alteration of bowel habit, stomach pains and irritable bowel syndrome.
