Irwin Mitchell are concerned to read alarming reports after holidaymakers had fallen ill whilst staying at the Holiday Village, in Sarigerme, Turkey during May 2012.
The exclusive First Choice hotel has been under fire for a number of years and hundreds of holidaymakers have turned to the International Travel Litigation Group at Irwin Mitchell to act on their behalf. Since 2005 Irwin Mitchell has acted for over 1,200 holidaymakers whose holidays at the Holiday Village were ruined by illness, including cases of Salmonella, Campylobacter and E.coli. In 2009, Irwin Mitchell received instructions from over 500 clients who suffered with gastric illness, this case is presently ongoing. Furthermore, Irwin Mitchell were instructed by holidaymakers who suffered gastric illness at the Holiday Village Hotel, Turkey in 2011, these cases have now settled. It is with some concern that these problems are ongoing at the Holiday Village Hotels, as we are being continuously instructed by holidaymakers who have had their holidays ruined due to gastric illness.
It has previously been reported that holidaymakers suffered unpleasant gastric illness including symptoms of diarrhoea, vomiting, stomach cramps and fever. They saw what appeared to be poor food hygiene standards at the hotel. For example, food was served uncovered, was often undercooked and sometimes appeared to be reheated. They noticed that new food was added to trays of food that had been on display for a while. They saw birds, cats, ants and wasps in the dining areas.
Additionally, it has been suggested that some holidaymakers recently returning from the hotel have suffered gastric illnesses. It has been reported that one holidaymaker who was due to return home, is still in Turkey and in hospital. Holidaymakers describe how the meats that had been served in the restaurants were often raw and had blood seeping from them. Holidaymakers have also reported that the cutlery in the restaurants were not cleaned sufficiently, and often had stains on them.
Another holidaymaker describes how all their party suffered from sickness and diarrhoea, and believe that it was due to the food that was served in the restaurants, particularly the raw chicken that was served.
