Butlins Bognor Regis Caravan Park, 2016
We're concerned to learn about guests falling ill with gastric symptoms while on holiday at the Butlins Bognor Regis Caravan Park, in June 2016.
Our Public Health team have been contacted by a family who report developing severe diarrhoea, sickness and nausea during their stay at the park. The holidaymakers reported that the food at the caravan park was on occasions served lukewarm and was often left uncovered.
The family also had complaints with regards to the standard of the facilities at the park. For example, the holidaymakers complained that the slides were not open due to understaffing and that the outside splash area for children contained weeds, litter mould.
Jennifer Mullins, a Solicitor and Public Health lawyer at Irwin Mitchell, said: “We have now heard first-hand reports from the guests of the standards they experienced at the Butlins Holiday Park and we have a number of serious concerns. It is worrying to hear that other holidaymakers may have suffered the same problems as these guests during their stay at the hotel. We would urge anyone else who suffered problems at the hotel to get in touch as they may be able to help with our investigations.”
Gastric symptoms can range from mild diarrhoea to abdominal cramps and blood in stools. Having significant experience in assisting those unfortunate enough to contract gastric illness, Irwin Mitchell’s specialist Public Health team know first-hand the potential long term effects that gastric illness can have, such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

"We were very happy with the outcome of our case, especially as we were initially offered nothing from the Tour Operator. Irwin Mitchell were very professional throughout and we are very happy with the outcome."
