Assault in the Dominican Republic

Travel law experts at Irwin Mitchell are working on behalf of John Luchford, who was assaulted while on holiday in the Dominican Republic in December 2008.

Mr Luchford accompanied other members of his holiday party to a disco after the entertainment at his hotel finished. While leaving the disco, Mr Luchford was attacked by another guest at the hotel and his family.

The attack left Mr Luchford with various injuries, including trauma to his eye. He was also bleeding from where his ear was bitten. Mr Luchford received medical treatment at the Medical Centre after being escorted there by hotel security staff who had broken up the disturbance.

The next day Mr Luchford began to suffer abdominal pain. He was taken to hospital and needed surgery due to a large haematoma in his pancreas. He also suffered lacerations to his liver and spent Christmas in the hospital away from his family.

Years after the incident, Mr Luchford still suffers a range of problems including psychological trauma, eye damage, neck pain and eating problems.

Our travel lawyers are helping Mr Luchford to make a claim against his attackers.

"We were very happy with the outcome of our case, especially as we were initially offered nothing from the Tour Operator. Irwin Mitchell were very professional throughout and we are very happy with the outcome."
