£6,000 Compensation For Man Injured By Faulty Gym Equipment

Irwin Mitchell represented Mr Lake, from Leicester, in respect of injuries sustained following an accident he sustained on a Thomson Holiday at the Atlantica Oasis, Limassol, Cyprus in July 2010.

Mr Lake, a keen weight lifter and gym enthusiast, decided to use the hotel gym.  Unfortunately, whilst using the chest pressing machine, the cable snapped mid exercise, as a result, the weight transferred to Mr Lake’s right hand causing it to fold back immediately and he hit his hand against the machine.

As a result of the accident, Mr Lake suffered a fractured schaphoid bone, a dislocation of the knuckle directly above the wrist movement, and severe bruising and swelling.

Irwin Mitchell pursued a claim against the Tour Operator under the Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tour Regulations 1992.  Despite failing to admit liability immediately, Irwin Mitchell managed to successfully secure £6,000 in compensation.
