Snowboarding accident in Vars Les Claux, France

The specialist International Travel Litigation team at Irwin Mitchell has been instructed to act on behalf of Mr Stephen Paget following a snowboarding accident in Vars Les Claux, France.

On 30 December 2007, Mr Paget was following his wife down the slope on his snowboard in excellent weather conditions.  As he was reaching the bottom of the slope, a skier ran into the back of him with considerable speed and he was knocked unconscious as a result. Fortunately, he was wearing a helmet.  Mr Paget’s next conscious memory is waking up approximately one and a half hours later in a mountain rescue building. He was then transferred by ambulance to a medical centre.

Mr Paget sustained a head injury, a whiplash injury and bruising to his left shoulder and rib cage. On return to the UK he was referred for physiotherapy.  The problems with his shoulder were ongoing and as such he required surgery in August and October 2008. He also suffers with intermittent problems of forgetfulness and lack of concentration which will require further investigation by a specialist.

Irwin Mitchell has instigated a claim against the skier in France with the assistance of a French lawyer with a view to obtaining an appropriate settlement for Mr Paget. To date there has been no formal admission of liability.

"We were very happy with the outcome of our case, especially as we were initially offered nothing from the Tour Operator. Irwin Mitchell were very professional throughout and we are very happy with the outcome."
