Chemical Burns from Corfu Hotel Swimming Pool

A family of three who travelled to the Roda Beach Hotel in Corfu and who suffered from chemical burns after swimming in the hotel swimming pool are pursuing a claim against the tour operator, Thomas Cook, for the injuries they sustained.

It was reported that over fifty guests, including adults and children, suffered from chemical burns which affected the most sensitive areas of the body and which caused excruciating pain, soreness and shredding of the skin.

One guest reported that he took his five year old son to swim in one of the pools. Later that day, whilst relaxing by the pool, he became very uncomfortable, experiencing a stinging sensation in his genital area. He took a shower but found it unbearable. His discomfort was showing no sign of improvement and so he sought the attention of a doctor in resort who advised him to stay out of the pool. Several days later, the pain had not subsided and he was still unable to enter the water.

The client explained that both his five year old son and nine year old daughter suffered similar burns to their genital area. The client was particularly annoyed as he had sustained the burns on the first day of the holiday, running his two weeks at the hotel. Additionally, he had attended the welcome meeting where the tour representative explained that there had been problems with the pool but these had now been resolved and there was no reason not to use it.

The client was aware of thirty other guests who had sustained similar burn injuries and he feels that his families injuries could have been easily prevented had they have been advised by the representative correctly.

The clients had to seek further medical attention upon their return to the UK.

Settlement negotiations are now underway with the tour operator, Thomas Cook.
