Fall from Ski Lift in Austria 2002

Irwin Mitchell has successfully recovered monies on behalf of a client who had fallen almost 30 feet from a ski lift in the ski resort of Kitzbuhel in Austria on Boxing Day 2002. The client had been unable to climb onto the ski lift properly and the ski lift operator had not noticed the problem and so made no attempt to resolve the situation.

The client fell from the chair lift and fractured his spine in two places. We were faced with not only providing evidence for a criminal investigation against the employee who operated the ski lift but the added complication of attempting to arrange a civil compensation case in a country whose legal system was very complex and different to that in the UK.

Settlement was successfully reached after a long legal battle with the Austrian lift company.

Irwin Mitchell was recommended to the client by a defendant solicitor who described the firm as "a worthy adversary and one whom she frequently lost cases to."

"We were very happy with the outcome of our case, especially as we were initially offered nothing from the Tour Operator. Irwin Mitchell were very professional throughout and we are very happy with the outcome."
