£14,000 for British tourist after fall in Gran Canaria

We successfully recovered compensation of £14,000 for our client, a British tourist who was on holiday in Gran Canaria, Spain, with his wife.  Our client booked a 14 night package holiday with First Choice to stay at the Club Riu Gran Canaria on an all inclusive basis.  On the second day of his holiday, our client and his wife decided to take a walk along the promenade after their evening meal.  The promenade was accessed via a gate at the rear of the hotel with three flights of stairs leading down to the gate.

The stairs were badly lit. When our client thought he had reached the bottom of the second flight of stairs, he stumbled and fell down, not realising that he still had one step to go.

Our client felt immediate pain in his left knee and was unable to put any weight on his left leg.  He was hospitalised in Gran Canaria for 7 days with a ruptured tendon in his left knee.

Following the accident the hotel put up temporary floodlights until permanent lights were installed.

We were instructed in October 2009 and pursued our client’s claim in England against the tour operator, First Choice. Following extensive negotiations with the tour operator's lawyers, we were able to agree settlement in October 2010 in the sum of £14,000.
