Successful claim following parasol accident at Cypriot hotel
Our client travelled to Cyprus on holiday booked with a UK tour operator. While taking an afternoon walk in the hotel gardens, she tripped over a broken parasol pole.
The pole had been left by the Cypriot hotel owners in the sunbathing area of the hotel gardens with an exposed and very sharp and end. When our client tripped, she landed on it and cut her leg badly on the sharp end.
Our client’s holiday was completely ruined. As well as receiving medical treatment in hospital in Cyprus, when she returned home to England, our client spent several more weeks visiting her GP’s surgery for treatment. Our client has been left with a permanent scar on her lower leg. She has been left very self conscious about the scarring and has stopped wearing skirts.
We pursued our client’s claim against the tour operator and they eventually accepted that the hotel was to blame. Under the Package Travel Regulations, the tour operator then accepted liability to pay compensation for our client’s injury, her scarring and her ruined holiday.
