Illness At The Hotel Riu Helios Bay

Irwin Mitchell is concerned to learn of recent reports of illness at the Hotel Riu Helios Bay, Bulgaria.

Despite positive reports, a holidaymaker who stayed at the hotel in 2014 stated that they are “very disappointed” and that they all “came down with a sickness bug” and are “still not 100% now”. They also report seeing “vomit in bins and faeces around the pool”. Another holidaymaker and “4 family members all experienced a night of severe sickness and diarrhoea“. The holidaymaker visited their GP when returning to the UK and was sent “to hospital to be checked” and it was confirmed that they had contracted cryptosporidium.

Cryptosporidium is a waterborne parasite which causes unpleasant gastric illness. It is often associated with swimming pools that are not adequately maintained or cleaned. Cryptosporidium can have a significant impact on victims in the short and longer-term. The infection can be potentially fatal and can also lead to the development of long-standing health conditions, from which sufferers may never fully recover.

If you also travelled to this hotel and have subsequently suffered from symptoms of gastric illness, Irwin Mitchell, who specialise in dealing with cases of such nature, would like to hear from you.
