Cayo Coco Hotel, Cuba

7 holidaymakers receive £9,600 in damages following illness on holiday at the Cayo Coco Hotel in Cuba 2005

Irwin Mitchell acted for 7 holidaymakers who stayed at the Cayo Coco Hotel in Cuba in August 2005.  4 of them contracted serious gastric illness which resulted in them seeking medical attention at the hotel, with one holidaymaker being prescribed up to 5 different medicines by the hotel doctor.  Many other guests were seen being taken from the hotel to hospital in ambulances, as well as many others also being treated at the hotel’s medical centre.  As a result of the wide spread illness, the hotel was inspected and the fish restaurant was immediately closed. Further, eggs and chicken were removed from the menu.

Following settlement negotiations between tour operator Thomas Cook and Irwin Mitchell, our clients were awarded a total settlement of £9,600.   The tour operator also agreed to cover their legal costs.
