Family Wins Compensation After Holiday to the Dorada Club Resort was Spoilt by Illness
A family of 5 won compensation after a Mum and her young daughter were hospitalised on the Dominican Republic whilst staying at the Dorada Club resort on an all inclusive basis.

Mel Antcliffe from Coventry thought she might never see her three children again after she was admitted to hospital in the Dominican Republic after fainting and suffering a head injury and suspected fluid on her brain when she was weak with her illness. The illness started a few days before the end of her holiday when she developed sickness and diarrhoea. She became increasingly weak and fainted whilst in the bathroom, hitting her face on the toilet, causing a four inch gash to her head and badly injuring her mouth and teeth.
When she regained consciousness, she found herself lying on the bathroom floor in a pool of blood and an ambulance was called to take her and her youngest daughter, who was suffering from similar symptoms, to hospital. Mel underwent emergency surgery to treat her facial injuries and a scan indicated that she may have fluid on the brain and at one point she was advised that she might need to be flown to the USA for specialist treatment.
Mel was still not well enough to travel by the time the family were due to go home so, having been assured by a Tour Representative that everything would be taken care of, her children returned home on their own.
Mel remained ill for several weeks on return from the holiday and was unable to return to work in the family carpentry business. She has been diagnosed with Irritable Bowel syndrome and advised that her symptoms are likely to continue for the rest of her life.
Mel said “I was so frightened. I thought I was going to die in hospital thousands of miles from and I kept thinking about how I might never see the children grow up.”.
