10 holidaymakers win over £54,500 after a stay at the Palm Beach Hotel, Dominican Republic
Irwin Mitchell recovered compensation for 10 people who stayed at the Palm Beach Hotel in the Dominican Republic after a breakdown in food hygiene procedures at the hotel caused all of them to contract gastric illness, resulting in ruined holidays for the party of 10 holidaymakers.
Although none of the holidaymakers were diagnosed with any specific gastric infection, 5 of them developed permanent Irritable Bowel Syndrome as a result of the infections they picked up during their holidays.
JMC Holidays Limited admitted that they were liable for the claims and settlement negotiations resulted in us recovering over £54,500 in compensation for our clients. The highest award for the most seriously ill of our clients was over £10,000.00.
Mr and Mrs P went on an all-inclusive holiday to the Palm Beach Hotel to celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary. Shortly after their arrival at the hotel, both of them fell ill suffering with symptoms of gastric illness which continued after their return home. Neither Mr nor Mrs P fully recovered from the illness and they continued to suffer symptoms which they were told are likely to be permanent. In both cases, medical experts concluded that the original gastrointestinal infections had caused the couple to develop post infective Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Mr and Mrs P’s claims settled for over £20,000.00 between them.
