"The team at Irwin Mitchell has a ‘pre-eminent reputation’ for travel personal injury work"

Legal 500 (2016)

Maria Rosa, Goa, 1999

More than £38,000 recovered for ruined Millennium holidays at the Maria Rosa in Goa, India.

Irwin Mitchell represented 29 people whose holidays to the Maria Rosa Hotel in Goa, India in December 1999 – January 2000 were ruined when a breakdown in food hygiene at the hotel caused 26 of them to become ill with unpleasant gastric symptoms including diarrhoea and vomiting.  While the majority of those affected recovered to full health within 1 – 10 weeks, 6 of the holidaymakers were left with Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
Tour operator JMC Holidays Ltd (now called Thomas Cook) made a partial admission of liability, and following negotiations we were able to recover over £38,000 in compensation for our clients. The tour operator also agreed to cover their legal costs.

"We were very happy with the outcome of our case, especially as we were initially offered nothing from the Tour Operator. Irwin Mitchell were very professional throughout and we are very happy with the outcome."
