66 holidaymakers win £185,000 after illness ruins holidays at the Phaselis Princess Hotel in 1999
Irwin Mitchell acted for 66 clients whose holidays at the Phaselis Princess Hotel in Turkey in July and August 1999 were ruined when a breakdown in food hygiene procedures at the hotel caused 60 of them to suffer from unpleasant gastric illness. These clients noticed a number of problems at the hotel, including food that was left out and uncovered for long periods of time and which was often undercooked. Fortunately, most of our clients recovered to full health after a couple of months, but 11 of them clients went on to develop Irritable Bowel Syndrome as a result of the infections contracted during holiday.
Tour operator JMC Holidays Ltd admitted liability and following negotiations we were able to agree settlement of our clients' claims totalling £185,000. The tour operator also agreed to cover their legal costs.
