Motorcycle Accident in Finland

Irwin Mitchell acted for a motorcyclist who was on a motorcycling holiday in Finland. He was knocked off his motorcycle when a Finnish national pulled out from a side road in his car and into our client's path. Our client's left leg was crushed between the car bumper and his motorcycle before he was thrown to the ground.

Liability was not disputed by the Defendant's insurers, so Irwin Mitchell investigated settlement of the claim in the jurisdiction of Finland. However, the maximum amount of damages offered by the Defendant's insurers was equivalent to just £16,000.

In view of the low damages available in Finland, Irwin Mitchell issued Court proceedings in England against the UK claims handlers of Defendant’s insurers.

Following extensive negotiations, Irwin Mitchell secured damages of over £101,000 in settlement of our client's claim (some £85,000 more than the damages that he would have received had the case been settled in Finland).
