Road Accident at Frankfurt Airport

Irwin Mitchell successfully represented a client injured in an accident at Frankfurt Airport in June 2008.

Our client was travelling to London Heathrow from Frankfurt with Lufthansa German Airlines. While she was on a shuttle bus being transferred from the airport terminal to the aircraft, the bus collided with a luggage carrier and our client was thrown forwards. Her chest hit a metal barrier, and she suffered a fractured sternum and severe bruising.

Irwin Mitchell pursued a claim against Lufthansa German Airlines under the Montreal Convention, which applies to all international carriage of persons, baggage or cargo performed by aircraft for reward. The Convention imposes a ‘strict liability’ against the airlines for injuries sustained not only on board aircraft but also in the course of embarking or disembarking. Lufthansa German Airlines therefore admitted liability without delay, and Irwin Mitchell recovered compensation in excess of £4,500 on behalf of our client.

"We were very happy with the outcome of our case, especially as we were initially offered nothing from the Tour Operator. Irwin Mitchell were very professional throughout and we are very happy with the outcome."
