£10,000 compensation for passenger involved in an RTA in the Isle of Man

Irwin Mitchell have successfully settled the claim of Mrs M following a road traffic accident that occurred in the Isle of Man in 2008.

As a result of the accident, Mrs M sustained an injury to her face as well as various cuts and bruises.  Mrs M has been left with a large scar running from her nose to her lip as well as swelling to her cheek. She continues to suffer with numbness and tingling in her cheek which her GP has indicated could well now be permanent.

The Isle of Man is a foreign jurisdiction to England and Wales, and our International Travel Team submitted Mrs M’s claim to the Defendant's insurers.  The Defendant admitted liability from the outset; however they disputed the value of the claim. We instructed medical experts, including plastic surgeons, to examine Mrs M to establish the true severity of her injuries and the likelihood of having a full recovery.

Although the Isle of Man is a foreign jurisdiction, personal injury claims are valued in a similar way to England and Wales.  Our International Travel Department are experienced in dealing with claims in the British Isles and, with the assistance of local Isle of Man lawyers, we valued the claim and entered settlement negotiations with the Defendant’s insurers. The claim was valued between £9,000 - £10,000, and we successfully managed to secure Mrs M the maximum £10,000 valuation for her claim.
