€265,000 for British victim of road accident in Italy
We successfully recovered compensation of €265,000 for our client, a British tourist injured in a road traffic accident in Naples, Italy.
Our client was on a seven-day cruise with her husband which included a stop in Naples, on 8th July 2008. Our client and her husband were making their way back to the cruise ship after exploring Naples, when they had to cross a dual carriageway to get back to the ship. They made their way to the designated crossing point and crossed the first half of the carriageway, waiting in the middle for a break in traffic before crossing the second half. As they were waiting to cross the road, a bus came out of nowhere and struck our client, narrowly missing her husband.
Our client suffered serious injuries, including breaks to her right foot, left leg, left hip, ribs, left elbow, eye socket as well as a punctured lung. She was hospitalised in Italy for 10 days before being repatriated to England, where she spent a further 5 weeks in hospital.
We were instructed in September 2008 and pursued the claim against the insurers of the bus in Italy.
Following extensive negotiations between Irwin Mitchell Solicitors and the Defendant’s insurers, settlement was agreed in September 2010 in the sum of €265,000.

"We were very happy with the outcome of our case, especially as we were initially offered nothing from the Tour Operator. Irwin Mitchell were very professional throughout and we are very happy with the outcome."
