Man Injures Shoulder While Working On Board Merchant Navy Vessel

Irwin Mitchell is acting on the behalf of a client who was injured while working on board a Merchant Navy vessel.

Shortly before our client’s accident, repair works were being carried out to the compressor on the vessel.  Oil had leaked from the compressor and had not been cleaned up properly, nor had any signs been put up to warn the client of the dangerous situation.

As he was trying to work in the area, he slipped on the oil and suffered a serious injury to his right shoulder. The client has undergone surgery to but doctors are unable to completely repair the damage caused by the injury.

As a result of his injuries, our client was unable to work for an extended period of time. He has been left with permanent problems with his shoulder and is unable to return to work on board Merchant Navy vessels. He is unable to carry out the physically demanding tasks he had previously enjoyed, such as the gym and DIY.

The owners of the vessel accepted responsibility for the client’s accident and a claim for compensation was pursued against them.  We successfully obtained a six figure settlement for our client, which included a claim for loss of earnings as well as a claim to compensate the client for the pain and suffering he has endured as a result of his injury.

"We were very happy with the outcome of our case, especially as we were initially offered nothing from the Tour Operator. Irwin Mitchell were very professional throughout and we are very happy with the outcome."
