Compensation For Victims Of Gastric Illness Aboard Thomson Dream
Over 200 passengers have received a significant settlement after severe gastric illness left a number of them suffering horrific symptoms including diarrhoea, vomiting and stomach cramps following their stay on board the Thomson dream cruise ship in 2010.
Specialist travel lawyers from Irwin Mitchell represented 205 passengers from across the country who travelled onboard the Thomson Dream cruise ship across the Mediterranean between May and October 2010.
Among the holidays ruined were a honeymoon, golden wedding anniversary, silver wedding anniversary, numerous birthdays and other anniversary celebrations. 87 of those taking legal action suffered gastric illness.
Passengers who instructed Irwin Mitchell had concerns including:
- some food not being served at the correct temperature and some of the hot food being luke warm
- some food left uncovered in the restaurant
- some toilets in the bathrooms backing up and sewage spilling onto the floor
- some passengers reported dirty cutlery in use in the restaurant
- some guests experienced sewage smells on board the ship
Many of the passengers that suffered illness suffered from symptoms such as stomach cramps, sickness, diarrhoea and lethargy. Aside from making their holiday extremely unpleasant, these types of illness can have a debilitating long-term impact on their health. Some passengers had to seek medical assistance upon their return home.
Within the group who travelled on board the cruise ship in 2010 were passengers who were looking to enjoy wedding anniversary celebrations and special birthdays such as a 40th, 50th and 60th birthday. Those passengers have described how such celebrations were ruined as a result of their experiences.
Irwin Mitchell previously agreed settlements for 13 passengers and has now come to an agreement with tour operator TUI UK Ltd, in respect of the remaining 192 passengers.
